Harassment & Bully Prevention
Every day, thousands of Americans are harassed, intimidated, threatened, and verbally or physically attacked in their work environment. Workplace bullying damages the employee’s moral, self-confidence, productivity, and can ultimately lead to workers’ compensation claims.
In a study done by the Workplace Bullying Institute found that 35% of workers have experienced bullying firsthand. Company downsizings and increased economic pressure have led to an abundance of stressful work environments, growing the existence of bullying amongst employees and their supervisors. Workplace bullying is now four times more prevalent than illegal harassment.
Bullying has transcended the realm of the playground into the workplace and similarly it remains primarily about an individual exerting control over another. On the playground however, careers are not in jeopardy and your bully doesn’t happen to also be your reporting supervisor. Bullying doesn’t have to be feared, only conquered. If supervisors, managers, and employees are trained to recognize bullying, the company as a whole can create a work culture free of harassment and discrimination. From this freedom from bullying, the work environment can become stable and more productive.
